We reject the Capitol rioting and pray for a peaceful transition of power.

Wednesday, January 6th is celebrated as the Day of Epiphany, or revealing, by the Christian world.

Let us, as members of the Baptist Church in the Great Valley, join with other people of faith and pray for our country. Let us pray for the peaceful transition of power that is a hallmark of our democracy. Let us pray for an end to the kind of rhetoric that emboldens people to attempt to replace the rule of law with anarchy. Let us pray for leadership that embraces us all instead of dividing us. Let our prayers reveal an understanding of the gift of all-encompassing love that God has given us and a recognition (in the words of the psalmist) that while some trust in princes or chariots, or other displays of earthly power, our trust is in the Lord.

Amen.
