Dear Friends,

On Wednesday of this week, we entered into the forty days of Lent that mirror the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness accompanied by angels after his baptism and before the beginning of his public ministry. In this time Jesus reflected, prayed, and prepared himself to bring God’s good news to the world. Similarly, we can enter these forty days remembering what Jesus’ ministry was like and reflecting on what his ministry of God’s good news looks like today.

Part of this reflection and centering our focus on Jesus’ ministry in this time also includes getting to know Jesus himself. Scripture includes both an in-depth description of Jesus’ ministry as well as an allusive picture of what he was like. Scripture gives us just enough information about Jesus so that we may know him personally and intimately, but leaves just enough Holy Mystery so that each of our encounters with Jesus are unique. Over the centuries and the continents, this has resulted in a beautiful array of art and imagery of Jesus within our Christian tradition.

During this season of Lent, I invite you to join me on Sundays at 11:45am in the Red Room, beginning Sunday, February 22, for “The Art of Faith: Depictions of Christ,” a devotional time of reflection, prayer, and centering as we explore this intersection of art, faith, and theology as well as our own images of Jesus that we carry in our hearts.

Together, through conversation and prayer, let us set an intention to get to know Jesus more fully this Lenten Season.

Know that each of you is in my prayers.

Peace be with you,
Pastor Rebecca
