What We Do – Who We Serve
Each summer we solicit donations from the membership and local community for school supplies and backpacks to put them in. They are delivered in time for back-to-school shopping to the workers at the back of the track at Philadelphia Park RaceTrack and Casino. The workers are generally immigrants and living in very humble circumstances. When they are able to have their families with them, they really appreciate our help to get the children and youth ready for school. Each backpack also contains a $25 gift certificate to cover some incidental school expenses we can’t anticipate.
This effort was brought to us by Rev. Rick Bunker, an American Baptist Chaplain who has a Family and Workers Support facility at the track, sanctioned by the RaceTrack and Casino company. You can see more about his work and how we do what we can to be supportive in the video here.
